Volga Quest sled dog race will be held in Togliatti

On January 25th February 2nd, 2014, the International sled dog race Volga Quest 2014 will be held on the territory of Volga region. The 640km-long race will pass through biggest cities of the region - Togliatti, Ulyanovsk and Kazan, and other small towns situated along the race route. Start city is Togliatti. On the event schedule, the Festival of riding sports will be held on January 25th, at 12pm at the embankment of quarter 6 of Avtozavodsky district city of Togliatti. At 10.00 in the morning on January 26th, 2014, the first race will start from the embankment.

Having rich traditions that are deeply rooted in the cultural and historical heritage of the folks of different countries, riding sports have been very popular and are actively developing both in Russia and abroad.

As a preface to the competition of 2014, a Volga Quest sled dog expedition around Samarskaya Luka was held in 2013, opening an opportunity for the region to start riding sports. In the expedition, 15 mushers and 100 dogs took part, making the expedition one of the brightest events for the whole region and its citizens. This year, mushers from different Russian cities and abroad will come to participate in the race. Samara region will be presented by Sergey Semenov (Togliatti) and some other famous mushers as Sylvia Futvaengler (Germany), Hans Peter Hays (Austria), Oleg Turumin (Listvianka, Irkutsk region, Lake Baykal), Viacheslav Demchenko (Moscow), Yuriy Gorunov (Moscow), Evgeniy Valeev (Karelia), Natalia Belizkaya (Saratov), Vladimir Radzivilov (Kamchatka-Moscow), Dmitriy Murzin (Kazan). Moreover, the Festival to be opened with a ceremony feast and sprinter starts, has gathered a lot of participants from Samara, Kinel, Saratov, Togliatti, Kostroma, Ulyanovsk, and Kazan.

Volga Quest is not just a sports event which goal is to pass the routine for the shortest time, but has a deep historical and cultural character. The race goes through the greatest places of Volga region tied with historical transport ways delivering goods from the east to the north of Volga. Not only mushers but the audience, national and children groups take part in the event. In each small town there is a personal program for the mushers.

In the future the competition will be held annually and invite bigger audience, participants, tourists from different regions of Russia and other countries. Volga Quest has a potential to become one of the greatest biggest sports and touristic events in the Volga region.

Race shall be held in accordance with Regulation of Volga Quest International sled dog supported by Department of International and interregional relations of the mayors office of Togliatti.
