5 June 2015

June 4, 2015, the representatives of the Togliatti citys administration held a meeting with the official delegation of Nagykanizsa (Hungary) at the conference room of the Togliatti City Hall.

Following the meeting, Sndor Dnes, the Mayor of Nagykanizsa, and Sergey Andreev, the Mayor of Togliatti, signed a joint solution, which provides formal recognition of the status of sister cities of Nagykanizsa and Togliatti. This document provides a basis for further development of friendly relations between two cities, as well as the possibility of closer cooperation in the field of economic development, culture, education, health, ecology and environmental protection, tourism, and sports.

Preliminary agreements on the consolidation of the status of the sister cities were reached during the visit of the official delegation of the city of Togliatti, headed by the mayor, in Nagykanizsa at the end of April 2015.

Bilateral cooperation between the cities has been developing for more than 18 years. Back in 1996, the administrations of the cities of Togliatti and Nadkanizha expressed propositions to establish partnership relations. In May, 1997, there were negotiations in Nagykanizsa, with the direct assistance of the Trade Representation of the Russian Federation in Hungary. The sides held "Russian Day", which was attended by representatives of Russian and Hungarian companies, the mayors of a number of Hungarian cities. In July of the same year on the initiative of the Trade Mission and in coordination with the Municipality of Nagykanizsa it was formed the first regional office of the Hungarian-Russian Foundation for the Development and Economic Cooperation.
